In 2010, AGESW announced the selection of the first cohort of the Gerontological Social Work Pre-Dissertation Initiative for doctoral students. These students were selected from a highly qualified pool of applicants and received a stipend from AGESW, which was matched by their home institution, one-year memberships to The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) and AGESW and registration to the 65th Annual Scientific meeting of GSA. At GSA, the awardees met for a one-day pre-conference session focused on gerontological research, teaching, and practice.
